Thank you so much for choosing Easipay for your new laminate flooring. We’re delighted to be part of your home upgrade, and we want to help you get the very best from your flooring from day one. Laminate is durable, family-friendly and stylish — and with the right care, it will stay looking beautiful for years.
This guide covers everything you need to know: early care, common issues, cleaning tips, and what to do if anything doesn’t feel quite right after fitting.
Laminate is hard-wearing and low-maintenance, but it does have one important rule: it is not waterproof. The first week is especially important to ensure the planks settle properly and stay protected from moisture.
Laminate can handle everyday life — but standing water will damage it.
If any liquid is left to sit:
The plank joints can swell,
Edges may lift or “bubble”,
Boards may permanently deform.
What to do:
Wipe spills immediately — even small ones.
This applies to:
Drink spills
Pet accidents
Water tracked in from bathrooms
Wet shoes after rain
Plant watering accidents
Quick cleaning prevents swelling and keeps the floor looking new.
Avoid wet mopping — laminate should never be saturated.
Use a slightly damp microfibre mop only.
Sweeping or vacuuming (with hard-floor mode) is fine straight away.
Do not use steam mops — they force moisture into the joints.
Avoid dragging furniture — always lift and place.
Heavy furniture dents are rare but possible if moved too early.
A small hollow sound or slight movement in a plank is normal initially as the floor acclimatises.
Keep the room at a normal temperature; avoid extremes of heat/cold.
Most post-fit issues are completely normal and very easy to solve. Here’s a list of the common things people ask us about — and what you can do.
Often caused by moisture or spills that weren’t cleaned up quickly enough.
Solution:
If caught early, keeping the area dry may allow it to settle.
If swelling is visible or persistent, contact us — we’ll advise the best next steps.
Gaps can appear due to:
Temperature changes
Humidity shifts
Normal settling
Heavy furniture being moved
Solution:
Most minor gaps settle on their own.
If not, we can advise or arrange a visit depending on severity.
This is usually normal and caused by:
Subfloor unevenness
The laminate expanding/contracting
Natural settling
Solution:
Most noises reduce over time.
If it becomes excessive, contact us and we’ll be happy to check it.
Laminate is scratch-resistant, not scratch-proof.
Prevention tips:
Use felt pads on furniture legs.
Avoid dragging chairs or furniture.
Keep grit/dirt away with mats at entrances.
Trim pets’ nails if possible.
Minor scratch fix:
Use a laminate repair wax kit (widely available online and inexpensive).
This happens when laminate expands but has no space around the edges.
Solution:
We may need to adjust edging or thresholds — contact us if this occurs.
General rules for laminate:
Never soak the floor.
Always use a damp, not wet, cloth or mop.
Avoid bleach and abrasive cleaners.
Blot, don’t scrub hard.
Solution:
Warm water + mild washing-up liquid
How to clean:
Blot the spill.
Wipe with damp cloth and mild detergent.
Dry the area immediately.
Solution:
Diluted washing-up liquid
For stubborn residue: a small amount of rubbing alcohol on a cloth
How to clean:
Remove as much as possible without smearing.
Clean with warm soapy water.
Dry thoroughly.
If residue remains, dab (don’t scrub) with alcohol, then dry.
How to clean:
Let mud dry completely.
Sweep or vacuum.
Damp-mop the area.
Dry the floor immediately.

A tiny amount of rubbing alcohol or acetone on a soft cloth

(Always test on an unseen area first.)
Solution:
Warm water + mild detergent
How to clean:
Blot the area.

Dry fully — moisture left on laminate is what causes damage.
Solution:
Warm soapy water
Or a laminate-safe adhesive remover
How to clean:
Apply warm water and let soften.
Wipe gently.
Dry.
