Thank you for choosing Easipay for your new vinyl flooring. We know how much of a difference fresh flooring can make to your home, and we’re here to help you get the very best from it for years to come.

This guide walks you through aftercare, cleaning, spill protection and what to do if anything doesn’t feel quite right after fitting.

Your First Week With Your New Vinyl

Vinyl flooring is durable, easy to clean and perfect for busy homes — but the first week after fitting is important to ensure everything settles properly and stays protected.

1. Sealing (Highly Recommended for Kitchens & Bathrooms)

Our fitters do not apply silicone sealant as part of the fitting service. If your vinyl has been installed in bathrooms, kitchens, laundry rooms or anywhere water is likely, we highly recommend sealing the edges.

Why sealing matters:

  • Vinyl itself is waterproof,

  • BUT if water seeps into the subfloor it can cause:

    • staining from underneath,

    • lifting around the edges,

    • long-term damage to the subfloor.

What to use:

  • A good-quality silicone sealant

  • Choose a colour that matches your vinyl, or use white if your skirting boards are white.

Where to seal:

  • Along skirting boards

  • Around toilets and sinks

  • Around baths and shower trays

  • Any area where water may pool or splash

It’s a quick job that makes a huge difference and protects your flooring from long-term moisture issues.

2. Cleaning in the First Week

  • You can mop your vinyl immediately after fitting — just avoid soaking the floor.

  • Use a slightly damp mop with warm water or a mild, non-abrasive cleaner.

  • Avoid steam mops for the first 7 days.

3. Let the Flooring Settle

Vinyl flooring is fitted with adhesive which needs to cure. For the first week:

  • Avoid dragging furniture — lift and place instead.

  • Heavy furniture may cause dents at first; these usually rise back over time.

  • Small visual waves or slight raised areas can appear initially as the vinyl relaxes. These typically flatten within a few days.

Common Vinyl Flooring Issues (and How to Fix Them)

Most post-fit issues are completely normal and very easy to solve. Here’s a list of the common things people ask us about — and what you can do.

1. Lifting Around the Edges

This can happen in areas with regular moisture (bathrooms, kitchens) if not sealed.

Solution:
Apply silicone sealant — it prevents water from getting underneath and causing lifting.

If lifting has already begun, contact us and we can advise on the best fix.

2. Bubbles or Raised Spots

This can occasionally happen in the first few days while the vinyl settles.

Solution:

  • Most bubbles relax naturally within a week.
  • Keep the room warm if possible.
  • If any remain after 7–10 days, contact us for guidance.

3. Small Gaps at Edges or Doorways

This can appear if the vinyl is adjusting to temperature.

Solution:
Often solved with simple edge trim, threshold bars, or silicone sealant.

4. Scratches

Vinyl is scratch-resistant, but not scratch-proof.

To prevent scratches:

  • Use floor protectors under furniture.

  • Lift furniture instead of dragging it.

  • Avoid abrasive scrubbers.

5. Discolouration

Sometimes caused by moisture underneath or by rubber-backed mats.

Solution:

  • Avoid rubber-backed mats — choose vinyl-friendly or fabric mats.

  • Ensure proper sealing to prevent moisture ingress.

Common Spills & Stains (and How to Remove Them)

Vinyl flooring is one of the easiest floors to clean — most spills wipe straight off — but here are simple instructions for tougher stains.

Golden rules:

  • Clean spills quickly.

  • Never use bleach or abrasive chemicals directly (dilute them).

  • Avoid harsh scouring pads.

1. General Food Spills

Solution: Mild washing-up liquid + warm water

How to clean:

  1. Wipe away excess.

  2. Clean with a damp cloth and mild detergent.

  3. Rinse with clean water.

2. Grease, Oil or Cooking Splashes

Solution:

  • Warm water + a small amount of degreasing washing-up liquid

How to clean:

  1. Apply solution.

  2. Wipe gently.

  3. Rinse well — grease residue can be slippery if left.

3. Tomato Sauce / Curry / Strong-Coloured Foods

These can leave a tint if left too long.

Solution:

  • 1 teaspoon washing-up liquid

  • 1 cup warm water

  • OPTIONAL: a tiny amount of white vinegar

How to clean:

  1. Wipe spill as soon as possible.

  2. Apply cleaning solution gently.

  3. Rinse and dry.

4. Ink or Marker Pen

Solution:

  • A tiny amount of rubbing alcohol on a cotton pad

How to clean:

  1. Dab gently — do not scrub.

  2. Wipe clean with warm soapy water.

  3. Rinse well.

(Always patch-test before using alcohol.)

5. Mud & Dirt

How to clean:

  1. Let the mud dry — do not smear it.

  2. Sweep or vacuum gently.

  3. Mop with warm soapy water.

6. Pet Accidents

Vinyl does not absorb liquid, so it’s easy to clean.

Solution:

  • Warm water + mild detergent

  • Optional: A tiny splash of white vinegar

How to clean:

  1. Wipe up the liquid.

  2. Clean area gently.

  3. Rinse with clean water.

7. Adhesive Residue (e.g., from tape)

Solution:

  • Warm soapy water

  • Or a vinyl-safe adhesive remover

How to clean:

  1. Apply warm soapy water.

  2. Let sit for 5 minutes.

  3. Wipe gently until residue lifts.

Extra Tips to Keep Vinyl Looking New

Regular Cleaning

  • Mop weekly with warm water and mild detergent.
  • Avoid very wet mopping — damp is enough.

Doormats Are Your Best Friend

Stops grit from scratching the surface.

Avoid Rubber Mats

They can discolour vinyl over time.

Prevent Scratches

Furniture pads under chairs and table legs help massively.

Use a Soft-Bristle Brush for Textured Vinyl

It helps get dirt out of the grooves.
